Glass and Ceramics Conservation
In the glass and ceramics conservation department are glass and ceramic objects from the Middle Ages to the present day and are treated along with porcelain and other materials such as marble and plaster of Paris. Works of art, everyday objects, and technical cultural artifacts, which often do not fit into a separate conservation discipline of their own due to the presence of mixed materials, are often cared for in the glass and ceramics department. This is a challenge that requires extensive experience, expertise, material knowledge, and flexibility above and beyond those required just for glass and ceramics conservation. In this department, work is often coordinated with specialists from outside the museum, e.g. in stone conservation.
