Guided Tour “What is Enlightenment? Questions for the Eighteenth Century”

The dialogue-based tour offers insights into the world of the Enlightenment in the long 18th century. The focus is on selected exhibits that provide insights into the historical themes and controversies of the time. The educational advisors provide background information on the protagonists and familiarise visitors with lesser-known global voices. Topics such as reason, world order, equality and mercantilism will be used to scrutinise the narrative of the Enlightenment as a pure project of progress. With the opportunity for exchange and discussion with the speakers, the positive and negative interdependencies of the Enlightenment in historical, political and cultural terms will be shown on the basis of the objects. This also raises the question of the significance of the Enlightenment for the present day.
