What does Berlin sound like? Like traffic and construction sites, like streetcars and subways. Like noise, announcements, screeching brakes. In between: Street music. How it used to be and what rhythm the city had in the eyes and ears of filmmakers is shown in an English-language cultural film for international guests from 1935, a sound-image experiment about the subway in 1956, and a disco film from East Berlin made in 1977. And what songs went through Berlin? For this we listen to the short animated film of the Meierei Bolle from 1937 and the song of the window cleaners from 1960. (ps)
