In the painting important reformers are gathered around a table as in the Last Supper. In middle sits Martin Luther, to his right is Calvin, to his left Melanchton. In contrast to reality, the painting suggests the utopia of a peaceful religious discussion. The opponents are represented as powerless figures at the edge of the table.
