Contemporary perspectives
The “German forest” has lost its innocence, at the latest since the ideological perversion after 1933. Nevertheless – and for this very reason – it preoccupies us and many artists till this day.
Contemporary works, particularly in the media of photography and video art, confront and adapt traditional images, motifs and perception patterns and try to create new visual impressions of the forest.
Some of them are ironic deconstructions of central forest images while others experiment with the wealth of forms and colours of the forest or the set pieces of romantic painting. Still other works interpret the forest as a place of German remembrance.
