The Family of Queen Victoria
The widely branched family of Queen Victoria gathered in London in 1887 to celebrate
the golden jubilee of her reign. The nine children and 36 grandchildren of Queen Victoria
had married among others into the German Imperial Family, the family of the Russian Tsar,
and the Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish and Rumanian Royal Families. Thus Victoria came to be
known as the „grandmother of Europe“. The connections with Germany were particularly close.
The eldest daugther, Vicky, married the Crown Prince of Prussia and later became German
Empress.
