Between the „Englishwoman” and the Prussian junker existed a deep political and personal dislike. In spite
of his political opposition to Bismarck, Crown Prince Frederick William fought on the battlefield against
Denmark, Austria and France between 1864 and 1871 for Bismarck’s unification policy „by iron and blood”.
The Crown Princess, who was always critical towards Bismarck, contributed with her support for the setting
up of military hospitals.
