The academic interest in the art of antiquity consists in the exploration of the principles of its creative forms. Further development of the classical models is only possible through knowledge of the principle of design in that epoch. Art follows the ancient forms, e.g. the Attic stele, the Klismos chair and the reduction to basic geometric ornaments. The artistic adaptation of Attic simplicity in the time from 1790 to 1804 brings with it a reductive approach to forms and contours. Fundamental impulses come from England and France. Portfolios published in both countries containing engravings of models in outline spread rapidly throughout Europe and are imitated.
